One day is not enough to explore the eclectic port city of Fremantle. Located just 30 minutes from Perth's CBD you will find great cafes, galleries and clothing boutiques with amazing heritage listed buildings dotted between. Fremantle is considered the world's best preserved example of 19th century port streetscape, Fishing Boat Harbour is its busiest section and hosts a plethora of fantastic restaurants - from cheap and cheery fish and chips to the freshest gourmet seafood straight from the Indian Ocean. Stop in at one of the historic pubs or try one of the new microbreweries for a taste of some local ale. The lively weekend markets are not to be missed!
Fremantle is also brimming with history. You can either hop on board a historic tram ride or set out on foot to discover Fremantle's colourful history. The Fremantle Prison offers an underground Prison Tunnel tour where you can learn about the port cities history of convicts, free settlers and maritime legends. Set in Victoria Quay is The WA Maritime Museum and the Motor Museum which are both very popular tourist spots.
Getting around Fremantle is made easy by either the tourist tram or the free CAT bus. You can also visit the Fremantle's beautiful beaches located in the outer suburbs by train, bus or river cruise.
